"Spend a night or two at Marriner's Boutique Guesthouses, where host Robyn serves high-quality, home-cooked dinners in your beautifully appointed guest suite with views out to the harbour. We were treated to Sri Lankan prawns with roti and fresh salad with limes from the garden, a Goan fish curry with fluffy rice and chutneys, followed by a decadent homemade vanilla almond and cinnamon ice cream with dark chocolate and espresso sauce. We loved the extra personal touches in the suite, including candles, fresh coffee beans and grinder, an espresso pot, Sky TV and Netflix, which made it feel like a home away from home."
- Stephanie Holmes, Travel Editor, New Zealand Herald.
"Robyn's offering optimised the concept of "manaakitanga" - taking care, showing generosity and giving hospitality to others. The guest house is delightful, the food was sublime and the hospitality superb.
We can thoroughly recommend this property."
- David (NZ)
"A deep-hearted and very friendly hostess. The view from the beautiful terrace over the [water] was fantastic.
The furnishings are hand-picked and exceptionally high quality - the grounds very consistent and kept in a rather Mediterranean style. Everything was classy, perfect and like from "Beautiful Living" down to the last detail.
Boutique style is definitely accurate. Perfect for couples.."
- Rudi (Germany)
"The hostess with the mostest, Robyn, is a beautiful, intelligent and compelling maître d'hotel. She has a great eye for design which means the rooms are tasteful, inviting and still cosy. I wish I had had more time to spend there.
The property is perfectly located to visit some beautiful, off the map places.
I'd go back and stay just for Robyn, her cooking and the sunset. Yes, I liked it."

It is a very stylish, carefully curated and romantic place with a nod to the history of the village.
Everything was very clean and tidy. We especially loved the double shower! "

"The [Lotus] feels like a castle with its extremely well curated interior that leaves no detail to arbitrary choices.
It offers lots of privacy while keeping the great fjord view open, and the artwork is befitting and follows a coherent scheme. 3 course dinner served in the in-room dining area round off this perfect getaway in a picturesque,
vintage harbour village."

RAWENE & THE HOKIANGA
"A vehicle and passenger ferry sails between Kohukohu and the colourful town of Rawene, just across the harbour. Your first stop should be the Boatshed Cafe, perched on the water, with an excellent menu from morning to night. We enjoyed brunch and great coffee, then left laden with homemade chutney and sweet treats to go.
Wander around town and call into the eclectic mix of galleries and stores, like Oh Studio and Simply Fun, before visiting another Heritage New Zealand property, Clendon House. Here, you'll find out more about the house's formidable first lady, Jane Clendon. Of Hokianga Maori descent, Clendon raised eight children solo in this modest home after her husband, ship owner and trader Captain James Reddy Clendon died, leaving her with massive debts."
- Stephanie Holmes, Travel Editor, New Zealand Herald.
"At first glance, Rawene looks like a sleepy one street small town- it has three churches alone on the main street(these must compete for congregations!) but it is surrounded by water everywhere and the interplay of light, sky, flora and fauna is very attractive. We enjoyed sitting at the Boatshed Cafe and looking at the water, but what also made Rawene special for us is our accommodation. Our room wasn't just clean and comfortable - it had style, a lovely view of the garden and the water and the residential cats came visiting (they were the cute but shy and quiet type ,so no worries there). We spent a lot of time just reading or walking..."
