the town of RAWENE is situated on the beautiful Hokianga Harbour and is the perfect jumping off point for destination day trips throughout the Northland region - including Cape Reinga, 90 Mile Beach and Doubtless Bay to the North; Waitangi and Russell to the East; and Omapare, Opononi and the Waipoua Forest to the West...
"Spend a night or two at Marriner's Boutique Guesthouses, where host Robyn, a former lawyer from Melbourne, serves high-quality home-cooked dinners in your beautifully appointed guest suite with views out to the harbour. We were treated to Sri Lankan prawns with roti and fresh salad with limes from the garden, a Goan fish curry with fluffy rice and chutneys, followed by a decadent homemade vanilla almond and cinnamon ice cream with dark chocolate and espresso sauce. We loved the extra personal touches in the suite, including candles, fresh coffee beans and grinder, an espresso pot, Sky TV and Netflix, which made it feel like a home away from home."

" I can not recommend this enough. Just gorgeous and relaxing in every way. Gracious and friendly host, beautiful accommodation and delicious food. Amazing location."
- Kristina (NZ) Via AirBnB, December 2020
"A deep-hearted and very friendly hostess. The view from the beautiful terrace over the [water] was fantastic. The furnishings are hand-picked and exceptionally high quality- the grounds very consistent and kept in a rather Mediterranean style. Everything was classy, perfect and like from "Beautiful Living" down to the last detail.
Boutique style is definitely accurate. Perfect for couples.."
- Rudi (Germany), February 2020
"Robyn’s place is so clean! Really stylish, even lovely towels! Robyn was happy to supply beans for fresh-grinding for a lovely coffee in the morning and heated the pool up for an evening splash. You can easily get by with the adequate kitchen for simple meals... and we loved Robyn supplying us with the BBQ so we could cook al fresco.
Great stay and lovely [accommodations]!"
- Jessica (UK), December 2019
"Robyn was an excellent, very welcoming hostess. We could not have asked for more.
The property was delightful, and our evening meal cooked by Robyn was delicious. So was our breakfast.
Our favourite stay in NZ!"
- Sue (UK), April 2019
"Emplacement idéal et calme. Equipement de haute qualité. Belle esthétique intérieure.
Très grande disponibilité de l hôtesse (peut être un peu envahissante)."
- Luc (FR), December 2018
"The hostess with the mostest, Robyn, is a beautiful, intelligent and compelling maître d'hotel. She has a great eye for design which means the rooms are tasteful, inviting and still cosy. I wish I had had more time to spend there. The property is perfectly located to visit some beautiful, off the map places. I saw NOBODY the following day on my excursions. How cool is that? The hottub was a bonus, as was having the honour of seeing around her house.
I'd go back and stay just for Robyn, her cooking and the sunset. Yes, I liked it."
- Jan (NZ), June 2018
"Robyn has made every effort to ensure that her guests are comfortable in her interesting and delightful accommodation. Beautifully presented and very well equipped, Marriner's Boutique Guesthouses are located at the edge of town offering superb views. The four poster bed in the [Lotus] adds a romantic touch and the outdoor furniture gives guests the opportunity to enjoy the garden and wonderful views. Highly recommended."

"The Lotus Guesthouse is just as stylish and well-appointed as it looks in the online photos, beautifully designed and with a great location just a few minutes' walk from Rawene's lovely Boatshed Cafe.
The [Lotus] is roomy and airy, with high ceilings and lots of storage space, yet warm and snug in winter.
It's a bit on the pricey side but well worth the splurge."
- Helen (NZ) via Airbnb, June 2020
"The [Lotus] was perfect, with plenty of room, gorgeous furnishings, privacy and an amazing outlook. I will definitely stay again."
Lisa (AUS), December 2018
"The [Lotus] feels like a castle with its extremely well curated interior that leaves no detail to arbitrary choices. This includes the bathroom and kitchen with a barista style coffee making facility, as well as a fridge freezer combo. It offers lots of privacy while keeping the great fjord view open, and the artwork is befitting and follows a coherent scheme. It is very quiet but has Bluetooth sound, Chromecast TV, plus Sky. 3 course dinner served in the in-room dining area round off this perfect getaway in a picturesque, vintage harbour village."

RAWENE & THE HOKIANGA
"A vehicle and passenger ferry sails between Kohukohu and the colourful town of Rawene, just across the harbour. Your first stop should be the Boatshed Cafe, perched on the water, with an excellent menu from morning to night. We enjoyed brunch and great coffee, then left laden with homemade chutney and sweet treats to go.
Wander around town and call into the eclectic mix of galleries and stores, like Oh Studio and Simply Fun, before visiting another Heritage New Zealand property, Clendon House. Here, you'll find out more about the house's formidable first lady, Jane Clendon. Clendon, of Hokianga Maori descent, raised eight children solo in this modest home after her husband, ship owner and trader Captain James Reddy Clendon died, leaving her with massive debts."
